How I heard about it: This was another book on a student's blog and I think it looks amazing! I think this will be a great book to use in the future and I have a strong feeling I will enjoy it personally.
Book: Yours Truly, Goldilocks
Author: Alma Flor Ada
How I heard about it: This book was at the library and I was immediately interested. I love books that take classic tales and add a spin on it. I plan to check this out sometime this summer in hopes of being able to incorporate it into a classroom soon!
Book: Can You Say Peace?
Author: Karen Katz
How I heard about it: I saw this book on another student's blog and thought it looked like a wonderful story to share with a class of students. Diversity is another area that I think everyone could pay a little more attention to and hopefully this book will assist in that.
Book: The Wall
Author: Peter Sis
How I heard about it: I remembered seeing this book when we were doing our in-class controversial reading books and this was one I didn't have time to get to. It looked a little intense, but I think it's an important topic and could be a great book to use in the future.
Book: The Napping House

How I heard about it: I believe I've heard the name of this book previous to our class, but I think it looks like an interesting story and I want to know more about it.
Book: Cloudette
Author: Tom Lichtenheld
How I heard about it: A fellow classmate had this book in class and let me take a peek at it. It seemed to be an adorable story about believing in yourself. I think that is an important message to share with young students, so I'm excited to see if it's a good resource.
Book: Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully
Author: Audrey Penn
How I heard about it: I read another one of the Chester books and absolutely fell in love with the illustrations. I shared them with just about everyone in our class. Bullying is a hot topic right now, so I can't wait to see how I like this book!
Book: Koala Lou
Author: Mem Fox
How I heard about it: Numerous students in the classroom were passing it around asking each other questions about this book. Knowing who the author was intrigued me to read it all the more. The pictures look wonderful!
Book: Ivy and Bean- Book 1
By: Annie Barrows and Sophie Blackall
How I heard about it: Another student in the class read this book for their choice novel and it sparked my attention. I was told that it wasn't necessarily a challenging read, but it was entertaining and I think I might enjoy reading it.
Book: A is for Salad
Author: Mike Lester
How I heard about it: This was a book that was shared with us on the first day or so of class and it's stuck with me ever since. I think it's a great spin on the alphabet story and am eager to see what it's all about!
Book: The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs
Author: Jon Scieszka
How I heard about it: This is another example of a story that caught my attention during student presentations in our class. I thought it looked hilarious and realized I'd heard of it when I was younger. I never came around to reading it, so I figured I'd like to check it out and see if it's any good.
Book: Llama Llama books
Author: Anna Dewdney
How I heard about it: I was spending some time in the library and overheard a mom talking to another mom about how her young kids loved reading the Llama Llama picture book series. I thought they sounded cute and I hope to familiarize myself with them prior to more experiences I will have with young ones.
Book: Nerds
Author: Michael Buckley
How I heard about it: I saw this book on a handout from the Iowa City Public Library and then asked one of the librarians about it. She mentioned that it was a great read and nominated for the Iowa Children's Choice award and that I should look into it for this summer.
Book: Dear Dumb Diary
Author: Jim Benton
How I heard about it: I read one of these books for my series choice and I found it to be very entertaining. I really like the author's style and am excited to see how the other series books are!
Book: Martha Speaks
Author: Susan Meddaugh
How I heard about it: I was at my local library at home and the librarian mentioned how it was a wonderful book about the alphabet. I had not read it, though the title does sound familiar. I think it's a charming idea to have a dog eat alphabet soup and share the letters with the readers.
Book: Fly Away Home
Author: Eve Bunting
How I heard about it: I've heard this title's name several times throughout our class, but on the controversial readings day, I actually saw the book on the table and grew a fonder interest in reading it. I have only heard of strong reactions to this book and can't wait to see how I feel about it after reading!
Book: The Rabbit and the Turtle
Author: Eric Carle
How I heard about it: This was a book that was placed on my table during a class presentation and I was fortunate enough to glance through it. I'm familiar with the tale, but look forward to reading this story and deciding whether or not I want to use it in my future classrooms as a means of teaching about competition and other morals.
Book: Pigling (A Cinderella Story)
Author: Dan Jolley and Anne Timmons
How I heard about it: I heard about this book when a student shared it with the class during her presentation. She highly recommended it and found it to be interesting as a spin off of other fairy tale stories. I wanted to read it to potentially share with students when I am teaching about these genres.
Book: Flotsam
Author: David Wiesner
How I heard about it: This was a book I heard about during another student's class presentation. I'd heard this author's name come up several times and was told that he was an excellent picture book author, which made me want to check it out!
Book: Liberty Porter, First Daughter
Author: Julia DeVillers
How I heard about it: We were in class at the Iowa City Public Library doing our book circle pass and I came across this book. I read the mini summary and was immediately intrigued. It seemed like the type of books I read as a younger reader. I think I would enjoy it and my little cousins are about at the age that they would enjoy it, too!
Book: Alice The Fairy
Author: David Shannon
How I heard about it: I read another book by David Shannon and found it to be unique from the books I'd been reading. I read a book that I felt more boys would enjoy, so I feel like I'd like to read a book I'd assume more girls would like. I look forward to seeing a different form of his literature!
